Client overview

Saint Mark’s Woodthorpe has been a place of worship for the people of North Nottingham for over 60 years. In 2025, the church entered a season of renewal, with a fresh vision for the years ahead: “Hearts on fire, hope alive.”

Three core values were defined to shape the next chapter: formation, encounter and mission - shaping the culture and priorities for the years to come.

Saint Mark’s needed a brand and website that reflected this renewed vision: fresh, energetic and full of hope, inviting people to encounter Jesus and welcoming them to become part of church life.

The need

Our brief was to create a new brand and website from the ground up. One that would capture Saint Mark’s outward-facing, missional heart and speak to people both inside and beyond the church community.

The design needed to feel bold and joyful, while remaining timeless enough to serve the church well into the future. Most importantly, it needed to communicate Saint Mark’s desire to see people transformed by Jesus and live lives wholly shaped by Him.

The new leadership team came to us with a clear vision for the future, carefully considered target audiences and a real desire to push beyond the conventions of traditional church branding design.

From the outset, the direction was clear: create a modern, confident and distinctive identity that reflected Saint Mark’s renewed vision, welcomed new audiences and gave the church a strong visual foundation for this next chapter.

What we did

We started by getting immersed in the world of Saint Mark’s, beginning with an in-depth discovery questionnaire and a visit on Sunday where we spent time with the congregations and leaders to better understand their story, needs and vision.

The visit was invaluable to the project, giving us a deeper visual understanding of the church and its community, whilst also providing an opportunity to capture authentic photography to bring the brand and website to life.

From there, we developed and refined the visual identity across logo, colour, typography and supporting assets. Saint Mark’s chose confident creative ideas and, after 3 rounds of development, we arrived at a final identity, neatly brought together in a clear set of brand guidelines to help them use the brand consistently for years to come.

We then brought the identity to life online, refining content from the previous site to create a more streamlined experience. A clear and intuitive design system was a priority, making it easy for both the existing congregation and those discovering Saint Mark’s for the first time to find key information, while communicating the church’s exciting vision for this new chapter.

Striking typography, a vibrant colour palette and a new spark-inspired viewfinder motif create a distinctive visual language that captures the energy and hope brewing during this new season of Saint Mark’s Woodthorpe.

what the client said

"Working with Goodly Creative has been an absolute joy from start to finish. Their professionalism, creativity, and care were evident throughout the entire process. What stood out most, however, was not only their ability to listen but their remarkable intuition. They seemed genuinely able to see who we are, understand our heart, and capture the vision of St Mark's in a way that often clarified it for us. Through colours, fonts, design, and storytelling, they didn't simply build a website; they brought our church to life online. In a digital age where online spaces are the new front door to community and belonging, our new website will have a significant impact across North Nottingham. Goodly Creative have been outstanding, and we could not recommend them more highly.”
